Music Review: Nikki Nik "I'll Meet You Here" EP

Artist: Nikki Nik
EP: I'll Meet You Here
I took a listen of this EP on her official site Nikki Nik: a singer-songwriter empowered by autism. Most of the tracks have videos with the exception of Waterfalls. I have to be honest so here it goes. I think Nikki has a lot of work to do. However I'm going to begin with the good news. I see talent in Nikki. She has a good voice but I believe she needs to work on range. Through each song her vocals remain monotone. I'm not sure who her inspirations are but I would suggest listening and watching Elle Goulding, Kelly Clarkson, and Cascada.
I specifically recommend Cascada's Evacuate the Dance Floor because it seems from her songs that she desires more of a techno/club dance style. I think also listening to these different artists will help her find range in her voice so it doesn't come across as monotone. Speaking of techno dance music, it's important to differentiate between the songs. All the songs tend to sound the same with the exception with Innocent Eyes. The rhythm needs to change to make each song stand out on its own. You don't want the listener to feel they've heard the song before. Again listen to Cascada's Evacuate the Dance Floor and compare it to her track Everytime We Touch. Yes there's that impulse beat but that's common. However the arrangement is different thus why both are popular dance tracks.
Now for the videos. These too need more variety. They will get lost in the crowd which is the same with the music. Music videos tell a story and that story is the story of the song. I'm going to use Bad Boy Attraction for instance. It is again a headshot of Nikki singing to the camera and a random James Dean picture. There are other random pictures and sights in the video which reminds me of some of the cheesiest 80s videos.
The title Bad Boy Attraction I also think could use reworking because I get a seductive tone from it but it's too proper for lack of a better word. As I've told another artist,  the lyrics need work. I feel the rhyme is forced. I used to do that when I attempted to write song lyrics. Not all songs have rhyme either. It's all in how the writer executes it. Trust me I have plenty of corny lyrics because I tried to force it. You have to let these things flow. Again I'm going to turn to Bad Boy Attraction.
The opening lyrics are

"You’re a madness deep inside me
Want you, and you know why
Thinking of you, drives me crazy
It gives me what I want and it saves me"

What I suggest is maybe something like,

"I feel a fire deep inside me.
The thought of you it drives me crazy
I feel a need to want your touch
I yearn it so much"

That is just an example. All the songs need work. As I said when you work on a song and/or video no matter whether you're well known or not, you want your work to stand out not fade in the background. You want to show you belong in the business and have the ability to keep your position once you've reached it. Nikki Nik has talent to make it but not without reworking the lyrics, music, and videos. That is my review and my advice. Reach for your full potential and don't settle for less.
