Movie Review-Christian Mingle

Christian Mingle The Movie
Starring Lacey Chabert
You're lonely, looking for love. You know Mr./Ms. Right is just around the corner but you're tired of waiting so you take matters in your own hands, take a leap of faith, and try a dating site.
After a bad date, Gwyneth Hayden, sees an ad for Christian Mingle and decides to try it out. She's not exactly a believer so she bends the truth a bit and when she meets Paul she's thrown into his world of hardcore Christian values. His father is a preacher and his mother, well she's a piece of work (portrayed by the marvelous Morgan Fairchild). Gwyneth gets in way over her head when she accepts an invitation to join Paul and his family on a mission trip. Although she refers to "Christianity for Dummies" to force the faith, if you will, she slowly begins to see what this is all about.
The most heart wrenching scene is when she's "exposed" as a non-believer. I found this scene to be interesting because it's not so much that she is a non-believer but she's a lost soul who needs guidance. Instead of guiding her, Paul feels he can't share that part of him with her because she's a non-believer. Now obviously the rest of the movie plays out pretty well but there are some problems I have with this film especially about the dating site.
I've had experience with dating sites and believe me, the odds of you meeting a genuine person is like playing the lottery. Bad people exist even on the Christian sites. I don't think it's fair to ask how many times someone goes to church or go by how much Scripture they memorize. Going to church and memorizing Scripture does not make you a true Christian. You can still be a bad person and do those things. Trust me, I stopped going to church because of hypocritical Christians. We're not perfect by any means but when you don't walk that path and think that church and Scripture is enough. You have another thing coming. This film did depict this idea toward the end when Gwyneth tells Paul to learn to be his own person and stop living the life that his parents and others have laid out for him. God wants us to take our own path. That is what life is about. God gives us that freedom of choice and leads us along the way.
All in all Christian Mingle was an all right movie. I didn't love it but I didn't hate it either. Besides Lacey Chabert has become the queen of television movies. She's awesome in them and she has this innocent charm and conviction in her performances. It was nice to see a well known actress in a Christian based film.
With that said, if I have to rate this, I'd give it 3 GEMS. Until next time...
