Gary Shandling

Image
Today my sister, Samantha, tagged me in a post which I thought was another joke post but instead the headline said that Gary Shandling died. As many did, I stared at the headline in disbelief. We just watched Captain America: Winter Soldier , we just saw Gary Shandling hail  Hydra. The funny thing is that the first thing that came to mind was his skit with Conan at the Emmys as Conan's love interest. I've watched The Larry Sanders Show and enjoyed his countless talk show appearances. I even caught him on The Tonight Show starring Johnny Carson when I was a kid. I think the tribute Conan did on his show was spectacular and genuine. He always speaks from the heart when things like this happen and that's why I love watching Conan. He even shared the clip from the Emmys that still cracks me up. It's still hard to believe this talented man is gone. You are missed Gary. Many of us will surely be re-watching your classic moments and be reminded of why you're one of the

Marijuana...the FACTS

Recently I commented on Bernie Sanders' Facebook page concerning his support of legalizing marijuana. As you can imagine people defended their precious weed and one woman went into her health history, getting mad at me and telling me to tell her why medical marijuana is bad for her. A man compared marijuana to milk saying the following " How many times must this be debunked? It is not a gateway drug any more than milk is. People who are predisposed to addiction are going to find their drug of choice whether it is alcohol or heroin or cocaine or one of the many legal opioids." Newsflash, milk is not a drug it is a dairy product most commonly used in cereal and provides us with nutrients. This cannot be compared to a gateway drug and yes, marijuana is a gateway drug. A gateway drug is defined as "a drug (such as alcohol or marijuana) that is thought to lead to the use of more dangerous drugs (such as cocaine or heroin)" (Webster Dictionary). The Oxford diction

A Nation Divided What Happened to A Nation United?

I have never seen such separation in my life than now. In 9/11 we lost black, white, Asian, Spanish, etc. but they were all Americans. All their lives matter. You should be ashamed, those who support Black Lives Matter because it's not just black people who are suffering. Look at the hatred that spread. No life matters more than the other. ALL lives matter. Since this movement against police, many officers have been killed for senseless reasons. Are you proud of yourself? You influence people to become cop haters. Not all policeman are bad just like not all blacks, whites, immigrants, and refugees are bad. There was a time when we lived in peace. People were friendly to each other, and yes ignorance goes on and is never absent but there was a time we didn't fear everyone and everything. It's the same with this presidential election. We need to respect each other's opinions even if we don't agree. That's what the nominees should be promoting, unity. Remember wha

America's Pretty Woman: Julia Roberts

Image
Julia Roberts is a Pretty Woman inside and out. What captivates us with her? Well it's the same thing that makes her my #1 favorite actress. She actually ties with Sandra Bullock for me. Julia is known for her 400-watt smile. No, Ms. Roberts does not have a 100-watt, she has a 400-watt smile because she clearly lights up a room just by walking in it. The first movie I saw her in was Pretty Woman  with Richard Gere. I will never forget because I saw the movie with my aunt and my grandmother. I thought she was the most beautiful woman I had ever seen especially in the black cocktail dress. She was so charming and breathtaking. I was 8 years old when I saw that film. My sisters and I protected my aunt and grandmother from the "bad" parts a.k.a. the passionate moments between Vivian and Edward. We laugh about it a lot now but it was and is my favorite Julia Roberts movie, well, one of them. I find myself conflicted when it comes to choosing my favorite movie with Julia beca

Sandra Bullock: Always A Delight

Image
Sandra Bullock, without a doubt, is one of my favorite actresses. I've been a fan since she played Annie in Speed . What I love about Sandra is her ability to not only become the character but to be the character. She puts so much of herself in every character she plays. There is a realness in her performance that makes you fall in love with each character. There's not one character that you don't feel represents Sandra in some way shape or form even if we don't know her personally. She really shines through in each film. Even if the film isn't great ( All About Steve ), you love the movie anyway because of her. Sandra brings out the best in her leading men; from Keanu Reeves in Speed and The Lake House  to Ryan Reynolds in The Proposal . My favorite Sandra Bullock film is not one of her most popular ones but it is to me, a Bullock classic, it's Hope Floats . Sandra plays Birdie, a woman who finds out about her husband's affair on public television then fa

Airwolf Seasons 1-3 vs.Season 4

Image
Airwolf Air dates: 1984-1986 Seasons 1-3 Airwolf follows the story of Stringfellow Hawke and the search for his brother St. John who went M.I.A. in the Vietnam war. Though presumed dead, String has reason to believe his brother is alive.  The F.I.R.M. and their agent, Michael Coldsmith Briggs III or known as ArchAngel, have developed a powerful helicopter called Airwolf. It is the first of its kind, an army of one if you will and a very powerful piece of equipment that America's enemies are interested in having. Unfortunately for the F.I.R.M. String has taken possession of the helicopter when he is hired to take the vehicle back from the evil doers who stole it. Hawke, with the help of his friend Dominic Santini, hides the aircraft in a secret cave in the middle of the desert. In exchange for help in finding his brother, String agrees to use Airwolf to carryout missions for the government as directed by ArchAngel.  Whenever someone is in trouble, Hawke, Dominic, and Ai

Amada Senior Care Nashville

My great Aunt Julia was put into Faire Acres nursing home toward the end of her life. When we visited her, no one was tending to her. It was like she was left there to die. Unfortunately she did pass away there. Years later I was at Faire Acres to sing Christmas carols with my high school chorus. It was a select few of us that went. Anyway I saw an elderly woman in a wheelchair set aside like she was a piece of furniture. She was crying. Staff passed her and the other residents like they were a nobody. I felt so bad for this woman. I didn't know what was making her sad but being ignored by the staff was not helping. I couldn't stay for long because we were singing throughout the facility. I quickly gave her a hug and for that moment, she stopped crying. For that single moment she felt wanted and cared for. Many times we dismiss our elderly like their dead weight. They need tender loving care as well. They want to feel wanted and important. This is what Amada Senior Care Nashvi

Congratulations, You are a Disgrace to Our Country

I am boiling mad about how these possible Presidential candidates are acting. You are doing more personal attacks than listening to the people of this country and you know what? The media is not innocent in all this either. Giving hype to it. Stick to the problems that are facing our country than taking personal stabs at each other. You each, Republican and Democrat are a disgrace to this country. This is why we're in the shape we're in because you even treat governmental positions like it's a joke. Really? I tell you what, come live in my shoes or another hard working American's shoes for one day, living paycheck to paycheck and tell me how funny this is then. The government ROBS us of OUR money then say they won't lend us THEIR money because we MAKE TOO MUCH according to the GROSS PAY which we don't even see HALF of that PAY. Not even HALF of that do we bring home. You think it's funny now? Respect & love is the platform y'all are trying to take?

Ghostbusters Girl Power Has Been Unleashed...Yay or Nay?

Image
Ghostbusters Release Date: July 15, 2016 Starring: Leslie Jones, Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, & Kate McKinnon Another reboot. Is it me or is Hollywood running out of ideas that they feel the need to reboot everything? When I first heard of this reboot, I wanted to scream. First the rumors were there was going to be another sequel with the original cast but then came the death of our beloved Egon, Harold Ramis. The next thing fans knew they turned it into a reboot but with an all female cast instead of the original cast. Then again, you can't have Ghostbusters without Egon. Now the new cast comprises of SNL alumni Kristen Wiig and current cast Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones along with the hilarious Melissa McCarthy. A hearse serves as the new Ghostbuster car but I must say after viewing the trailer, the movie looks promising. It's great to see Slimer back but the one thing I'm hoping for is that they do tie this into the original films as well. Hopefully Slimer

Insult Them...and They Will Buy...

Did you ever walk around the mall and try to avoid those people at the individual kiosks? Especially the ones for the Dead Sea products? Sometimes there is just no avoiding them for one reason or another. I have two stories of the Dead Sea people that you are bound to enjoy. Story One: Thank You for Reminding Me of My Loneliness My first encounter with the Dead Sea kiosk occurred in Springfield Mall. I was meeting a friend of mine in Friendly's when I attempted to avoid the kiosk. The man made it impossible because he grabbed me by my arm and lead me to the kiosk. He starts putting some of the scrub on my hands then tells me to feel how smooth and soft my arm is. I tell him that I don't have money for it and he keeps pressing. DSM (Dead Sea Man): Let me ask you a question, that smooth right? Are you married? Me: No. But thank you for reminding me that I'm not married yet. DSM: OH well you have a boyfriend? Me: No. But again, thank you so much for reminding me what a
