Netflix Must Sees

The Decoy Bride
Starring David Tennant, Kelly MacDonald, and Alice Eve
Decoy Bride is delightfully funny. Popular actress Lara Tyler (Eve) and famous author James Arber (Tennant) wish to marry in private without the paparazzi interfering so they escape to the small island of Hegg.
Katie (MacDonald) is an aspiring writer herself trying to find her way. She's broken hearted and thus has decided to go man vegan. Unfortunately as soon as she arrives home, her mother informs her they are going to a wedding. It's the wedding of her ex to another woman. She is then asked to write a book about Hegg which she begins to work on right away.
Lara Tyler goes missing when she spots paparazzi on the island, leaving her agent (Ugly Betty's Michael Urie) to find a replacement for the wedding. This replacement is lucky Katie which proves to be a hilarious replacement but also an enlightening one for both Arber and Katie. So before I give away any more of the story, check it out on Netflix today! Besides Doctor Who meets Merida, what could be more entertaining?

American Experience: The Amish Shunned
(PBS)
PBS truly has wonderful programming. This documentary is powerful in the information it brings to light. Having grown up visiting Lancaster County, I knew certain things about the Amish such as they don't use electricity, no photos taken, and they keep to themselves. The documentary focuses on what happens should an individual choose to leave the Amish community. Some of them are completely shunned by their family. Some are welcomed back at times but with conditions. It's different for us who lived outside those walls. We see the separation of us from our parents as a way of life. We choose our own path but the Amish are limited in the paths they choose. Should they choose to leave the Amish they are not only saying goodbye to a way of life but they are leaving everything they knew to enter a world which was closed to them for so long. I have developed many opinions while watching this documentary but I will say that it's beautiful how some have formed ways for those that leave to find comfort when they don't have that family connection. I strongly recommend this film. It's a way to try to develop some understanding of a world that is strange to us. Maybe open your minds a bit to those different from us.

Airwolf
Starring Jan-Michael Vincent, Ernest Borgnine, Jean Bruce Scott, & Alex Cord
A much forgotten 1980's classic television show created by none other than the great Donald Bellasario of NCIS fame as well. I truly had no idea he created this show until I watched it again recently. For those that don't know Airwolf tells the tale of Stringfellow Hawke and the search for his brother Saint John (pronounced Sinjin). Along with his friend Dominic and Caitlyn, String uses the top secret power machine of Airwolf to carry out important missions for the Firm, headed by Archangel (Alex Cord). Despite how much technology has evolved, Airwolf is still a magnificent sight. The series lasted 4 seasons but the crew of String, Dominic, Caitlyn, and Archangel lasted 3 seasons. The fourth season is a whole new crew lead by Saint John (Barry Van Dyke) and Jo Santini, Dominic's niece. It's not the same without the original cast and proves that the show is more than just this awesome, indestructible helicopter.

The Paradise (BBC)
Starring Joanna Vanderham and Emun Elliot
The BBC has developed memorable and quality television such as Downton Abbey and Coupling The Paradise is no exception. The Paradise follows a young lady named Denise (Vanderham) who leaves home to start a new life for herself. When her uncle is unable to give her a job, she retreats to the new wonder store called The Paradise. It's an elegant store run by the handsome and enthusiastic Mr. Moray (Elliot). It's slowly becoming popular among the locals because there is no other store like it. Denise applies for a job in the ladieswear department. To the dismay of Clara, her competitor in every way, Denise succeeds as a sales woman making her first sale to Katherine Glenndenning, one of the richest women in town, also the girlfriend of Mr. Moray. It's a wonderful show following the paths of Denise and Moray as well as the fate of The Paradise and its workers. Everything about it is gratifying. I'm sad that it only lasted 2 seasons and would love to see a movie or something to provide some conclusion to this wonderful series.
