Scandal Priemere: Plot Taken Too Far? *Spoilers*

Scandal is one of my favorite shows to watch so I am definitely on the Shonda train however I think the show took a risk with their main plot for the premiere. We find a royal family coming to visit the states and the Princess happens to be an American who married into the royal family (reminds us of the story of Princess Grace of Monaco). Unfortunately after the White House dinner, Princess Emily is killed in a tragic car accident which took place in a tunnel (very similar to Princess Diana's death). The scene where Olivia arrives on the crash site, is very graphic. You see the Princess, dead on the road, her tiara inches from her and still in her gown from the dinner. Olivia quickly covers her up and yells at the paparazzi to cover her body and have some respect. I truly think this was a risky move on the writers part to include such a sensitive topic for the world and especially Princess Diana's sons. The Queen in the episode admits to having the Princess killed because she

Remembering 9/11

9/11 is an important and tragic day in our history. What I can't get over is that we tend to only honor the memory of those lost on this specific day. We should honor their memory everyday by treating each other better. We should honor their memory by making this country greater than what it was. 9/11 is not only about remembering but it is about coming out stronger and that is one thing we did not do. Look at all the greed and laughing stock we are to the rest of the world. Look at how we treat our soldiers when their service is complete. How many of them do we set up with jobs once they're out of the service? How many of them are set up with homes and anything they need? They risk their lives for our country and for what? To be treated like nothing. So many veterans are homeless and jobless. So many people are suffering in poverty and are treated like they're nothing. We have turned against each other. Instead of helping each other, we turn to prejudice. We were so wrapp

Movie Review: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Image
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Starring: Megan Fox, Will Arnett, Whoopi Goldberg Release Date: August 8, 2014  Where do I begin? Ah yes, at the most obvious fact. THIS IS NOT TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES! I am a huge fan of the '80s/'90s cartoon franchise and once again, Hollywood has taken an awesome franchise and screwed it up. I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times, IF you are going to touch classic franchises like Ninja Turtles, STICK TO THE STORY! I am simply appalled by this version. In fact, I couldn't even finish the stupid thing. First of all Megan Fox is not believable as the go-getter reporter April O'Neil. Instead she comes across as an amature reporter fresh out of high school. She's ditzy and far from the April O'Neil we know from the original series and original films. The character of April O'Neil is a fearless reporter who always gets her story not this amature "miss my daddy" reporter who waits in the wings, g

Doctor Who: Peter Capaldi, How does He Fair?

As we all know our beloved Matt Smith stepped down and Doctor Who took on the face of previous Doctor Who actor and fan, Peter Capaldi. It is a huge switch for those of us who entered the world of Whovians with the likes of Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant, and Matt Smith. Peter Capaldi is older and not a Doctor Who who is popular with the ladies. However if we recall in Doctor Who history, it wasn't about the Doctor's attractiveness or lack there of but his ability to captivate us with his continued mysteriousness and his uncanny witty charm. So how does Peter Capaldi's Doctor fair? After finally being able to watch series 8, I would say quite well. Series 8 is definitely darker than the previous series and the sense of humor dry and light.  Peter Capaldi brings about a Doctor who is unsure of himself. It's like he's rediscovering himself all over again. The other thing that I love about this Doctor is that we really get to see the relationship between Clara

We Want America Back!

Are you an American citizen? Are you living from paycheck to paycheck, watching your dreams move out of your reach? Are you tired of how we are treated? Do you vote? Now I know this may come as a shock but YOU have power, YOU have a say, YOU just don't realize it. America is the land of opportunity or rather it used to be. What we face now is a land of restricted opportunity. Case in point, most jobs require experience in that field. A college degree counts for nothing yet on the flip side employers still require those educational credentials however they also demand the experience. Retail has even become difficult to enter because of lack of experience. However even with a job, you barely make enough to comfortably live. For instance, I work for a University and just the mention of the word university one would assume I make the big bucks but I don't. With the rising costs of living (apartment, bills, groceries, etc.), my pay becomes mediocre. Granted I am grateful for what I

America Getting the Bad Rap

After reading Ariana Grande's colorful words for her home country, I felt a need to write this entry. First I did read her apology and I must agree with Mr. Rob Lowe, it was lame. I felt she was more trying to justify what she said than truly being sorry for saying it. Also, her actions make her a bit hypocritical. She talks about promoting healthy eating and the child obesity statistics in our country then I'd also like to point out it's not just your words, Ms. Grande that is offensive but your mannerism. You licked a sugary doughnut, didn't pay for it and now there are allegations that you spit on it. Don't criticize people for what they like. Secondly, obesity is not all due to what the person eats. I have been overweight all my life and trust me, the country is not to blame. It is the officials, parents, and such. Children learn how to eat, what to eat by routine. There are plenty of thin people out there who eat what they shouldn't and still maintain the

Taylor Swift: Better Country or Better Pop?

Image
(*Disclaimer: I don't own the images on here. I used images from google.) Taylor Swift Country Artist Breakout year: 2006 Breakout song: "Our Song" Taylor Swift  Pop Artist Crossover Year: 2014 Crossover Album: 1989 I will be the first to admit that I resisted the storm known as Taylor Swift because frankly, I was annoyed by her; not so much her music but her. It was one of those things that you don't know why (aside from her continuous shocked look when she won an award) she annoyed me so much but then I slowly became a fan. Is there a difference between Country Taylor and Pop Taylor? Absolutely. Are we surprised by her crossover into pop music? Of course not. If you listen to her singles up to her final country album, Red , you can hear the transition between the traditional twang of country to the upbeat or "sick beat" of pop. Listen to Taylor's single "Tim McGraw" and then listen to "Trouble." Can you

Movie Review: If I Stay *Spoilers*

Image
If I Stay Starring Chloe Grace Moretz Release Date: August 22, 2014 If I Stay is an inspirational story about life in all its forms. Death is no the end of life but a form of life. This is what is depicted in the film based off the book by Gayle Forman. Chloe Grace Moretz portrays Mia Hall, a gifted musical artist with a loving family, friends, and boyfriend. She has everything a girl could want. When the film opens up, we find Mia home on a snow day eagerly awaiting a letter from Julliard to see if she got accepted or not. Her family convinces her to take a ride with them, spend the day outside the house with them instead of staying cooped up waiting for the letter. During their family outing, the Hall family get into a fatal car accident. Unaware of what's going on, she frantically searches for her parents and brother until it is brought to light that she is out of her body. She sees herself lying on the ground, unconscious, being attended to by paramedics. Through the f

Movie Review: In Time

Image
In Time Starring Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried Release Date: October 28, 2011 I attempted to watch this film twice and needless to say, I finally finished it the second time I watched it. So here we go... Justin Timberlake plays Will Salas, a poor boy who lives with is mom and wishes to take her to better places someday. The world is a different place where time has taken the place of paper currency. In other words, in order to pay for something you give minutes, hours, months, even years of your life for things like a cab ride or food. The perk to this crazy way of living is that everyone stops aging at 25. After all, it is everyone's desire to remain young, is it not? Though I find it a little creepy to have a son saying hi to his mother who looks the same age as him though she's older.  Unfortunately, Will's mother (portrayed by Olivia Wilde) dies when her clock literally runs out. She is unable to meet with Will successfully. She leaps into his arms, dea
